How to Boost FPS in Games Without Upgrading Your Laptop? (2025 Guide)
If your laptop is struggling to run games like CS2, Valorant, GTA V, or PUBG PC, don’t worry - you don’t need a new GPU to fix your FPS.
With a few smart tweaks, you can boost performance by 20 - 40 FPS in most games!
In this blog, I’ll share tried and tested settings from my own gaming laptop (Ryzen 7 6800H + RTX 3050)
Step 1: Set Your Laptop to Maximum Performance
๐ Power Settings
-
Go to Control Panel > Power Options
-
Set it to High Performance or Ultimate Performance
๐ Always Play While Plugged In
-
Never game on battery - it throttles CPU + GPU.
Step 2: Disable Background Junk
Use Task Manager:
-
Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc -
End unnecessary apps like OneDrive, Discord, Chrome, Spotify, etc.
Startup Optimization:
-
Task Manager > Startup tab
-
Disable things you don’t need during boot (e.g., Teams, Skype, Cortana)
Step 3: Optimize In-Game Settings
For Games Like CS2, Valorant, Apex:
-
Resolution: 1080p or lower (900p is a sweet spot)
-
Texture Quality: Medium or Low
-
Shadows: Off or Low
-
Anti-Aliasing: FXAA or Off
-
V-Sync: Off
-
Motion Blur: Off
-
NVIDIA Reflex (if available): On + Boost
Step 4: NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
Global Settings > Manage 3D Settings:
-
Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance
-
Low Latency Mode: On
-
Threaded Optimization: On
-
Texture Filtering Quality: High Performance
-
Vertical Sync: Off
Adjust Display Scaling:
-
NVIDIA Control Panel > Adjust Desktop Size and Position
-
Set to “No Scaling” and “Display” mode
Step 5: Clean & Update Your System
✅ Update GPU Drivers (Always)
-
Use GeForce Experience or go direct to NVIDIA site
๐จ Clean Temp Files:
-
Win + R > type
tempand%temp%→ delete all
๐งผ Disk Cleanup:
-
Right-click
C:\> Properties > Disk Cleanup
Real FPS Gains (Tested on ROG Strix G15 – RTX 3050)
| Game | Before Optimization | After Optimization | FPS Gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| CS2 | 180 FPS | 220+ FPS | +40 FPS |
| Valorant | 240 FPS | 280 FPS | +40 FPS |
| GTA V | 110 FPS | 150+ FPS | +40 FPS |
| Apex Legends | 75 FPS | 95+ FPS | +20 FPS |
Pro Tip: Use Intelligent Fan Modes
If your laptop has Armoury Crate / Vantage / Command Center, switch to:
-
Turbo Mode / Performance Mode
-
Fans will be louder but temps stay low = stable FPS
Optional But Effective:
-
Undervolt CPU with AMD Ryzen Master / ThrottleStop (advanced)
-
Add 8GB more RAM if you’re still on 8GB (boosts FPS in many games)
Final Thoughts
You don’t always need an expensive upgrade to play smoothly.
With these simple tweaks, you’ll unlock hidden performance in your existing laptop - especially for eSports titles like CS2, Valorant, and PUBG.
